What is HRD?

HRD Antwerp is a globally renowned institution for the certification and evaluation of diamonds and gemstones, with its headquarters located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is one of the most highly recognized institutions in the diamond and gemstone industry.

HRD Certificates (HRD Certificate) come in two main types based on diamond weight:

1. Full Report

- For diamonds 1 carat and above Provides detailed and comprehensive information.

- Details

- Complete information on weight, color, clarity, cut, and cut style.

- Size and proportions of the diamond.

- Plot diagram showing internal inclusions.

- Fluorescence information (if applicable).

- Signature and seal from HRD Antwerp.

- Usage Ideal for larger and higher-value diamonds.

2. Short Report

- For diamonds under 1 carat Provides brief and concise details.

- Details

- Basic information on weight, color, clarity, and cut.

- Size of the diamond (may lack detailed measurements of proportions).

- May not include a plot diagram or fluorescence information.

- Signature and seal from HRD Antwerp.

- Usage Suitable for smaller diamonds.

Key Differences

- Detail The Full Report includes more detailed information, while the Short Report provides a more concise overview.

- Usage The Full Report is used for larger and higher-value diamonds, whereas the Short Report is for smaller diamonds.

Let's go through how to read an HRD certificate, starting with the following details in the first section:

- Issue Date The date the certificate was issued.

- Report Number A 10-digit number that should match the laser inscription on the diamond's edge.

- Diamond Shape The shape of the diamond, such as round, heart, pear, etc.

- Diamond Color Grade The level of color in the diamond.

- Polish Quality The quality of the diamond's surface finish.

- Diamond Carat Weight The weight of the diamond.

- Diamond Clarity Grade The level of clarity or cleanliness of the diamond.

- Polish Quality The quality of the diamond's surface finish (noting that this appears twice, so confirm the specific context or placement in the certificate).

Understanding these details will help you accurately assess the diamond's characteristics based on the HRD certificate.

- Diamond Dimensions (Width x Length x Height)

Clarity Characteristics or internal flaw details on an HRD certificate provide essential information for evaluating a diamond's quality and value. Here’s a breakdown of the details included:

- Pinpoint Tiny, pinpoint-sized inclusions.

2. External Blemishes

- Description These are surface imperfections on the diamond. Examples include:

- Scratches Surface scratches.

- Nicks Small chips or breaks on the surface.

- Cavity Small pits caused by the removal of internal inclusions.

3. Visible Inclusions

- Description Inclusions that can be seen with the naked eye or magnification. Details include:

- Size The size of the inclusion (small, medium, large).

- Location The position of the inclusion within the diamond.

- Type The type of inclusion present.

4. Diamond Plot
